Can you turn a couch potato into a marathoner?
Hi, & welcome to my blog chronicling my journey from a sedentary couch-potato to running a full marathon. I started running in January 2012, on January 9th, to be precise! That was the day that I started my Learn to Run class, and for the first time in many years, started running. Originally, my plan was to run to lose weight - I never imagined that I would fall in love with the simple act of running. Suddenly, I was hooked, and from my Learn to Run class, which culminated in a 5Km race, I moved on to a 10Km clinic. I've already run a 15Km race, & two 10Km races, with a third coming up in a couple of weeks. I know that I want to run a marathon, that is my ultimate goal at this point. Then, after a presentation by the Arthritis Society, it hit me - why not do some good for others along the way? So, I am now a participant in the Joints in Motion program with The Arthritis Society. I am raising funds for the Arthritis Society by training and running my first full marathon in Rome in March of 2013. I'm running for my Arthritis Hero, my mother, who suffers from twisted fingers that are a source of constant pain, for my uncle, who sometimes has to struggle to walk because of the pain in my feet, for myself, for the stiffness in my knees that I worry will affect my mobility in the future. I 'm running for everyone out there who has to deal with the daily pain and loss of mobility that result from the different forms of arthritis.
Please support me as I train - all funds go to the Arthritis Society. I am looking for pledges - just 10 cents for every kilometer that I run during my training. From the training schedules I will be following, my total weekly kilometers will start around 20Km per week (only $2), and build to approximately 60Km per week ($6 per week). My goal is to get 250 sponsors, so please show your support by signing up!
To keep myself honest, and so that you can track my progress (and your financial commitment, lol), I will be posting a link weekly to my run summaries from my Garmin. I'll send you an "invoice" once a month via email, & you can pay by credit card as a donation on the Arthritis Society website, or, if the option is available with your bank, by email money transfer - we can work that out once you have subscribed. So please, join me as I train and help fight the pain of arthritis!
